Piano Classes – Studio Policy

Shannah McCormick’s Piano Studio Policy

Associates Degree with an emphasis in music at Cottey College,
Pedagogy course taken at UTSA (it helped me teach students better),
active accompanist

weekly lessons ranging from 30 minutes to 1 hour

I can also include music history during the lessons if it’s of interest to the student. If you are interested in this the minimum lesson length is 45 minutes.

Price of the books varies (average is $30 for set)

Lesson fees:
weekly 1/2 hour lessons $100
weekly 45 minute lessons $150
weekly 60 minute lessons $200

Family discount for monthly lessons in my home is $20

Referral discount available if you refer a new student and they sign up for piano lessons
The referral discount would go towards your next lesson bill in the amount of 20% of your bill

I prefer to teach in my home but if you need someone to come to your home the price is as follows
(as long as it isn’t too far away from my home)
(prices based on distance)
weekly 30 minute lessons $110-130
weekly 45 minute lessons $160-180
weekly 60 minute lessons $210-230

Required at all lesson times and recitals (see studio events)
Make sure your nails are trimmed
Coming to lessons with long nails is like trying to play tennis in high heels

Missed Lessons
I will make up a lesson if informed IN ADVANCE. It should be a reasonable reason such as being sick with more than just a cough. Otherwise, you are out that lesson/money and there is no makeup. Not practicing is not a reasonable reason because things can still be done.

Please be respectful of me and my time by communicating with me honestly and I will do the same.

Parental Involvement
Preferable with the younger kids. There is no set policy regarding this.

Older students should practice at least 15 minutes to a ½ hour per day or more if they want.
Younger students around ages 5-6 years old should practice at least 5 to 10 minutes per day or more if they want.
(Students will have an opportunity to earn stickers/points and prizes by doing good things. One of the things is recording their practice times according to the practice information above. More details will be given about this during lesson.)
